Since my fiancée and I have been and still are pretty anxious about the process during our K1 term, Would like to use this section to share our journey hoping will assist other K1/K3 cases schedule to interview in Rio de Janeiro.
So far we have heard different feedbacks regarding interview results, of course what we read and hear varies according to each case, circumstances, history and end result. Understanding, each case will be different and let’s try not to be bios but try to help giving your feedback that brings peace of mind to those that are in same case/situation. We have been hearing [from other peoples experiences, GOOD, BAD, SAD and TROUBLING RESULTS] that embassy workers in Rio de Janeiro are not all very nice as we would like them to be [but they are doing their job, regardless of their attitude]. Of course, let’s not jump into conclusions but let’s analyze cases if necessary.. Let’s see beyond attitudes.. Our Journey has been as follow: June 16, 2009 - Applications to USCIS - Vermont June 22, 2009 - Confirmation of Receiving Submission I-129F – NOA1 September 18, 2009 - Post-Decision approving I-129F – NOA2 September 26, 2009 - New RDJ Case # Issued October 5, 2009 - Email Request for Interview to Embassy October 6, 2009 – Embassy advised date of interview for November, 2009 Waiting, Waiting, Waiting.. -------------------- "The only limits to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today" - FRANKLIN D. Some of the experiences during interview at Rio: All interviews are scheduled for 7:45 AM, expect a very long day and bring snacks as you may not be able to leave the embassy for lunch.
Arrive Early ask for guidance of the correct line/interview are for K-1 appointments. You will be directed to the second floor.. You will be seated in a room and someone will be handling a list with the order of documents to be presented and a form to fill out with the address and telephone number in Rio, your home address email and telephone and your fiance’s telephone number. After your documents and forms are in order, the lady asks to sign DS 156 and DS 230. Then people starts being called by name and you go to the table and present your documents.. She reviews all the forms and staple them as required and needed. Then you will wait to see the consul.. it will take some time so be patient, have something to read.. You will be given a number and will be displayed and is your turn to be interview. I don’t think is an specific order # to be called.. Will enter a room and may find two consuls reviewing your file. Some people say, your case have been approved even before you enter the room, but don’t under estimate or over estimate the interview. Be prepare and ready to answer with all truth and honesty. If your fiancé[e] is with you, will be up to the consul to interview you individually or together. Have been cases where you will be separated and interviewed individually, be prepared. If you fiancé[e] is not with you, may be a chance he/she will get a call from the embassy, make sure he/she is available and ready to answer the phone the day of your interview. Consul will ask if you speak English, if you do is at his/her discretion to conduct the interview in English but you can request to be in Portuguese. Make sure you are polite.. You will be asked to sign the 156K form and then will start asking questions.. I don’t have the exact order of questions but the consul will be looking at you perhaps looking for things out of the normal whether you are lying or saying the trust so be confident and honest. Questions: How long have you been together? How did you meet? Since the relationship began, how many times have you met in person? When did he asked you to marry him/her? How did he propose? Were you surprise? How did you react? Did you cry? When did you and him told your parents? What did your parents think about your relationship? Do they agreed and support you? You may be asked the same questions in different ways, Don’t forget these people are there looking to make sure your relationship is pure and honest. Don’t walk in that room over confident thinking you are approved. If everything goes in order, you will be out of there in no time.. If you case takes a long, don’t lose confident they are working to get all things in place and maybe necessary for more questions. Don’t Break stat positive. Have copies of your emails, correspondence, telephone logs, pictures, cards ready to show your legitimate commitment however, you may not need it or even ask, but have it ready. Some interviews may last 5 minutes hours. Be mentally prepared. Hope this help as it helping my fiancée and I. Beinha also posted this which gives some good feedback regarding accommodation.
"You know what? The most important thing considering our safety is about the hotels!! OMG, you can't imagine how BAD they are. When I was there waiting to go to the airport, I made a friend there at Embassy, he is from Airforce and he was like, the only place that you can stay near here is the CAXAMBU Hotel. He said is nice and not expansive but all the others - Othon, Carioca... - are really not good places for girls like us, "if you know what I mean" (those were his words). I don't have the info from Caxambu Hotel, at Flamengo but it should be easy to google for." -------------------- "The only limits to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today" - FRANKLIN D. Wow, this showed me a few things that would get me lost!
1) When you guys say that you are asked to sign the forms... does that mean I'll have to fill everything at home but sign only at the Embassy? 2) Item 1 from Beinha's list, I'll stay at a hotel. Should I put hotel info or nothing? 3) Items 18 and 19 from Beinha's list, I never heard of them before! I am brazilian and I can read it, but is that some kind of document everyone has or just some cases? I have nothing to contribute about the interview, but I have a tourist visa (São Paulo Embassy), and from that interview all I can say is to be patient and keep answering the same thing even if asked five times. Might happen or not, but just be patient and answer it again and again. -------------------- ![]() 07/27/09 --- I-129F sent. 08/17/09 --- Case received at VSC (according to website) 08/19/09 --- Check cashed. 08/24/09 --- NOA1 on mail. 10/08/09 --- RFE on e-mail. 10/15/09 --- RFE hardcopy. 10/16/09 --- RFE answer sent. 10/18/09 --- USPS sent our package back, wrong postage, errr! 10/19/09 --- RFE full of postage travelling to USCIS. 10/30/09 --- USCIS receives RFE response and "Touch". 11/01/09 --- "Touch". 11/02/09 --- "Touch", maybe a poke. 11/03/09 --- "Touch" 11/12/09 --- NOA2 on e-mail. 11/20/09 --- Got NVC number, they say the case traveld to Rio on the 19th! 11/20/09 --- NOA2 hardcopy. |

Dont be intimidated with the list, may look complex but if you follow the orders and directions, you will get all your paperwork in order. 1 you will need to complete all the required forms by the embassy, DS, FS forms.. do not sign them as you will be required to sign in front of the consul or legal representative at the embassy. 2 at the embassy, they will give you a form in wich you will print the address in rio, in this case the hotel where you are staying.. 3 I dont speak portuguese, i wont be able to answer this questions sorry, lol my fiancee and I, well my fiancee has all the required forms, documents from me, exams, police reports etc.. it took a little time but all should be done on time in case of any complications.. hope it helps vp -------------------- "The only limits to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today" - FRANKLIN D. 1) When you guys say that you are asked to sign the forms... does that mean I'll have to fill everything at home but sign only at the Embassy? ---> You can sign them all there at the Embassy. She would say it out loud "please have the form xx signed at number yyy". And the assistant review with you if it's all signed. The Consul will ask you to sign a form in front of him, the DS-156 (the online form). 2) Item 1 from Beinha's list, I'll stay at a hotel. Should I put hotel info or nothing? ---> No, just in case you'll be there for several days and want your passport to be send there. I asked the assistant and told her my flight back home was same day, she said: we don't need it, leave it blank. 3) Items 18 and 19 from Beinha's list, I never heard of them before! I am brazilian and I can read it, but is that some kind of document everyone has or just some cases? ---> Neither do I. But my list is just the Embassy list... it's not exclusive mine, it's the current list to everybody. Probably it goes to the ones that have process or I have no idea, but as you can read, I can copy and it's exactly what the list says I have nothing to contribute about the interview, but I have a tourist visa (São Paulo Embassy), and from that interview all I can say is to be patient and keep answering the same thing even if asked five times. Might happen or not, but just be patient and answer it again and again.o It's easy... it can seems a bit overwhelmed but once you start it's not that bad. -------------------- Nov, 23th ---> Beinha & Lu are going to USA together!!!
